Another "Benefit" for Mothers, Not Fathers On 5 April 2004, Patricia Hewitt, Cabinet Minister for Women said, "Last Friday, in my constituency surgery, I saw a young woman who’s expecting her first baby in August. She told me her employer was giving her six months’ off, paid, and another six months unpaid - and that she’d be going back to work part-time. (I couldn’t resist telling her that last year we’d changed the law to give her those rights - and I was thrilled to get a hug from her in return.)" On 20 July 2004, Godfrey Bloom MEP said he was becoming a member of the Women’s Committee "to defend men’s rights". Today he said that no "sensible" employer would employ women of childbearing age. Labour government has a Minister for Women, but not for Men.
